Replacing Vista with XP

I purchased a new PC last week with Vista Home Premium. IE7 has since failed
and needs to be reinstalled. Herein lies the problem. IE7 is integrated with
Vista and can not be reinstalled without reinstalling Vista. When I try to
reinstall Vista using the supplied recovery DVD, after the entire process
runs (which seems to take forever) I get a message that my PC is not
compatible with the software I am attempting to install and then it restores
the broken version!

I want to purchase XP Media Center edition and install it on the PC but I am
not sure of the process. If I reformat my C drive to remove all traces of
Vista, with the DVD drive still work and allow me to install XP? If not, how
do install XP and get rid of Vista?

Thanks,

Dennis

real one wont be out for maybe a year. you are a test rat.
sorry, but better you hear it from a nice old guy like me
than from the nasties on the tube.
